(Also, I guess this can act as a general chat post if anyone wants to do so!)
And, I have an introductory post up, but that's in flux. I make it private, friends-only, or public at my own discretion, and won't bother editing this entry to detail that, but I'll link it just in case. :)

Fandom: Generally, I'm not really involved in fandom. I read fic and may write fic (generally, lately, anon on kink memes), but fic is the only contribution I make. I don't get into fandom discussion too much, but I love talking about my fandom interests!
Right now my main fandom is Hetalia, with Merlin on the side. I can't really balance multiple fandoms, so when I get into a new one it generally takes over, but that doesn't mean I don't love the others. Other fandoms I've been a part of in the past include Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Sherlock Holmes, along with some random books that I've taken a liking to. If you want to know more, just ask! I hate listing these things. ;3;
About me!: My name is Kelsey, I'm a 20-year-old girl, I live in Oklahoma (where the wind comes sweeping down the plain...), and I'm currently studying at the University of Oklahoma. My major is anthropology, and I want to minor in linguistics. I have a few interests related to my studies (historical linguistics, the English language, gender and sexuality... people...) and a lot that are not, as well, like art and art history, primates, and German, which I'm studying as well. I have no clue what I want to aim for after grad school (or even FOR grad school), so... here's hoping.
School and my studies currently take up much of my life and what I talk about, but fandom (like I said, mostly Hetalia right now) also takes up the things I talk about to a degree. On my LJ I mostly talk about my life, but I talk about fandom more on other sites (linked below!).
Labels have varying use, so I'll throw some out that apply to me for simplicity's sake. I've been a vegetarian for over five years now, although I'm not the exemplary vegetarian. I'm also a closeted atheist and pansexual - although I'm open about these things online, I haven't discussed them with really anyone I know IRL.
Other places I hang out are twitter and tumblr, so feel free to add me at those places as well! And comment if you want to know anything else. :)

A big hello to my new frands~ from the APH April Fool's event! :D Okay, I feel really awkward about this but better sooner than later: could you guys give me some basic information about yourself (i.e. name, where you live, age)? I... maybe forgot about some of you, or don't know at all for others. THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN I PROMISE. Also, I'm going to link my information post again, in case you haven't seen it. It hasn't been updated since December (although I did change my age in the post, heck yeah!) but is probably still pretty accurate. /too lazy to read it again
The best ideas come either (a) in the shower, or (b) in those moments before sleep (typically just at that moment you finally think you will be able to get to sleep). So, as a consequence of some crack fic ideas I had the other day in the shower/as I got dressed, I'm curious as to some of YOUR cracky fic ideas are. Even if those ideas will never actually come to fruition. I know some of you have them! I'm looking at you!
OKAY, I shall share one of mineoh god just shoot me. ( Under a cut because this is embarrassing and Hetalia, and I know not everyone on my flist is into that. )
WELP, I'm just gonna copy-pasta that meme I posted a few entries back because no one responded to it. /weep
Ask me to take pictures of any aspect of my life that you're interested in/curious about -- it can be anything from my favorite shirt to my books or my home. Leave your request as a comment to this entry, I'll snap the pictures and post them in a post. That way, you get to know a little bit about my life.
I will regret this post later, Y/Y?

Writer's Block: Round and round
Feb. 26th, 2011 | 05:08 pm
I've been listening to this song on repeat ever since the single came out. I just love it so damn much. I'm including a video with lyrics because they're just awesome. When I looked at them in context of the "So I'm joining the army" line at the beginning they were meaningful; when I later looked at them in the context of the band (which is putting out their first album after an extensive break and solo projects), they were meaningful. I guess the point of lyrics is to make them mean anything to anyone, but no matter what these lyrics strike me as particularly awesome. (My vocabulary is spectacular...)
I usually only manage to find out about bands' albums after the fact, but having bought this song beforehand, I'm super excited for it to come out on March 22. CANNOT WAIT.
Speaking of the Strokes, I've been listening to "Modern Girls & Old Fashioned Men" a lot lately too, but only because I ONLY JUST downloaded it. I'm about seven years too late, GDI.
Anyway, I'm glad this was a writer's block question today, because I've been wanting to share this song and my love for it. :)

I just posted the list of books I've read so far this year as well as a list of countries in a nice table with books I've read from those countries. Huzzah! That second list is probably not as complete as it could be, because so much of what I read is set in the US/the UK, so it would generally be pointless to list EVERYTHING I've read for these two. In general I tried to list books (if I'd read multiple for one country) that are representative of certain periods of that country's history, or that give an idea of the culture of that country.
I also changed my layout for a few reasons. 1) I was getting tired of my old one, plus this new one is more practical; 2) it feels like spring now, and spring means green; 3) I just like the color green! Also St. Patrick's Day and my birthday are coming up in less than a month...
Not only do I love the weather right now, but I also love how we had a snowstorm a few weeks back and how it was framed by such nice, spring-like weather as this. Seriously, wtf is this.
I'm just going to share another random thing I discovered recently. I don't actually know what this thing IS, but apparently it's derived from a sixteenth-century woodcut that represents the Holy Roman Empire in some way. There's an updated version created for Wikipedia over here, and it looks TOTALLY BADASS. Seriously, that eagle has two heads, there are flames that I assume come out of its mouths, and its eyes and claws are red. Plus, it has these weird boulder/storm-cloud looking things that are wearing crowns above its wings. Even the fact that the eagle's heads don't actually look like eagle's heads is awesome. It's just awesome!

my resolve in 2011

content
music: "Pumpkin Soup" - Kate Nash
My full list was a bit extensive, with bullets and sub-bullets, so I'm condensing it here. -_-'
- Speak clearly; be confident when speaking. Don't go faster than needed when speaking German. Stop using stupid, meaningless phrases so much ("like," "you know").
- Have more passion in life. Savor everything. Be more involved in life - my own and others'.
- Don't be a lazy clodpole.
- Be more of myself around other people.
- Learn a new skill. :D
- Constantly be reading.
- Constantly be writing.
- Learn recipes from around the world/try food from around the world.
The ones about reading and writing are going to be weird for me. I tend to set a specific goal ("read X books") which I don't meet. Forcing myself constantly to be doing a particular thing will help me to stay focused on that thing, while keeping me from being obsessed with a number. Progress is key, but progress cannot always be measured by quantity. I tend to notice progress more if I can measure it, so... this may be strange.
Also, I meant to link my introductory post yesterday. *shoves you in that general direction* :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I originally wanted to post a video wishing you guys an awesome new year but then I got some new friends (HI GUYS ♥) and I got all nervous, so I'm writing it out instead. I began this new year hating my cat and having the Bed Intruder song stuck in my head. Is that bad luck?
For Christmas, I got lots of pajamas and socks, as well as a sushi kit from my dad. For once, it's like he read my brain. :o I had hoped to get some books, but considering I don't even know what books I would want to buy at this point, I guess I can't be disappointed that I didn't get any. To my horror, my 13-year-old brother got an electric razor. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO IS HE GROWING UP? D:
Eh, I was going to include my resolutions here, but I'm just going to be lazy. Would you all be interested in reading them if I typed them up later?
I also want to wish a belated happy birthday to
emptybackpack, even though I haven't seen you around in ages.
I'm very hungry right now, as I haven't eaten anything most of today. My family traditionally eats black eyed peas with white rice on new year's for good luck. Do any of you guys do that? Or anything similar? It recently occurred to me that I didn't know the origins of that tradition, so I thought I'd ask. XD
Now... food.

THAT IS, MERRY CHRISTMASSSS.
The weather's been rainy and cloudy, not very conducive to the holiday spirit. It just doesn't feel like it's Christmastime, in general.
ANYWAY, I wish you all a wonderful holiday and hope that you get what you need/want and that you feast like there's no tomorrow~
